Apologies for the Lack of Updates
Well, I knew it had been a while since I'd updated this thing, but I wasn't aware of quite how long!
So, what's been happening since my last post? Well, I've got a new job now at a company called PUA Training. Follow the link to see what they do, I don't think my words could do it justice. The job is pretty fun, and already I've picked up a few things along the way, including a new-found dress-sense, which was sorely needed!
On the technical front, which is, after all, why I am working there, I've also learnt a lot about new systems. There a over a half-dozen sites I deal with as part of the job, and I've been immersed in systems based on CakePHP, PHPBB and WordPress, and I've even delved into the Twitter API.
As well as this, I've been putting together a media PC at home. It's only an old piece of kit really, using an old AMD Athlon XP processor I had lying around. As a bit of a personal exercise, I thought I'd give the latest Ubuntu (Jaunty Jackalope) a spin. Now I'm not really a fan of Gnome as I've always felt it lacked some of the polish of KDE. The reason? This is a fairly low-spec machine, and the lighter the windowing manager the better. I know I could have gone with XFCE or something similar, but I don't want to lose too much in the way of aesthetics! It's a testament to Linux though, that the machine can start up from cold to a usable desktop in 30 seconds. This may not sound that impressive, but when you consider it is running a web server and media streaming server, that sure licks anything Microsoft could bring to the table, especially on a machine this old. I must say as well, the Ubuntu brown is starting to grow on me as well!
